Position Title: Trainee Insurance Underwriter

Location: Stalybridge

Holidays: 25 days plus 8 bank holidays

Training: Level 3 Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship, supported by our training partner SkillsEdge and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Qualifications, to achieve the Certificate in Insurance (“CII”) qualification. The successful candidate will be supported to complete professional qualifications within an 18-month apprenticeship, with at least 20% of their working time dedicated to training, studying and learning.

Hours:35 hours working Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm with a one-hour break for lunch each day.

Contract: Fixed-term apprenticeship agreement, with the role to be made permanent following successful completion of apprenticeship.

About the role:

As a Trainee Insurance Underwriter, you will need to complete a variety of tasks including:

  • Build and maintain ongoing relations with clients, agents and brokers.
  • Communicate with agents or brokers to gather information or clarify details about insurance applications.
  • Participate in underwriting reviews and audits to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure coordinated and effective underwriting processes.
  • Under supervision, make underwriting decisions within the scope of authority granted by senior underwriters or management.
  • Assist in conducting market research to identify trends, competitor practices, and emerging risks.
  • Support team members with managing queries and answering queries via telephone and email.
  • Gain an understanding of regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Engage in continuous learning and development activities to enhance underwriting skills and knowledge of insurance industry practices.

No prior experience is required. You will be given appropriate support and supervision to both carry out your job role and complete the apprenticeship.

  • Be committed to completing both the apprenticeship and CII qualification.
  • Have administrative and IT Skills

Qualifications required:

  • 5 GCSE’s 9 to 4 (or equivalent), including Maths and English are essential.
  • 3 A Levels (or equivalent) graded C or above are desirable *OPTIONAL
